Since you've been gone

By Morgan Matson.
It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just...disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.
On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?
Apple picking at night?
Okay, easy enough.
Dance until dawn?
Sure. Why not?
Kiss a stranger?
Um...
Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane's list. Who knows what she'll find?
Go skinny-dipping?
Wait...what?

In my opinion there are four types of books: the ones that you hear everybody talking about them and you read them and they're great, the ones that people say they're great but they end up disappointing me, the books you didn't even know that they existed and they're amazing and the last group; the books you didn't know they existed and you didn't know it for a reason (they're horrible).
Since you've been gone it's in the first group.

For a month I was like "Oh my god I have to get this book" and you have to get it too. Since you've been gone has every essential to enjoy, it's funny and realistic. It's just amazing.

Alternating the story with the flashbacks gives all the Sloane tasks a reason. And you get to know the friendship of Emily and Sloane. However, looking back makes Emily think about her relationship with Sloane. Seriously guys make your voice heard, your opinion is worth it, don't be afraid of sharing what you think. Sorry for all this self-esteem speech. Back to the review.

About the names of the chapters, I want to point out that they gave the game away a bit regarding what was going to happen in the chapter. Emily has one task in mind but she ends up doing another one. Before I read the chapter I don't want to know what's going to happen.

Regarding the characters, it was really easy to relate to them. The outgoing Sloane or the shy Emily, you choose.
Emily hasn't got superpowers but in her own way she's a heroine, from the first page until the last one there's a huge change. She was lost without Sloane but at the end Emily is the one who makes her choices and she isn't afraid of learning from her mistakes.

One detail that I liked a lot was the playlist. Through the book you bump into the mixes that Emily and Frank use for running. All the time I was looking for songs that I've listened to.

And that's why I've come up with an idea, from now on I'm going to write a playlist for the book of the review. I'll choose the songs because they remind of a situation of the book or just because I've listened to them a lot while I was reading. So here's the first playlist.

The playlist
❋ Wake me up by Avicii
❋ This Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen
❋ Tonight I'm getting over you Carly Rae Jepsen
 Domino Jessie J
❋ Firework by Katy Perry

 Rating: 4.5/5*
