The Throne of Glass novellas.
Celaena Sardothien is
Adarlan's most feared assassin. As part of the Assassin's Guild, her
allegiance is to her master, Arobynn Hamel, yet Celaena listens to no
one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam.
In these
action-packed novellas - together in one edition for the first time -
Celaena embarks on five daring missions. They take her from remote
islands to hostile deserts, where she fights to liberate slaves and
seeks to avenge the tyrannous.
But she is acting against Arobynn's
orders and could suffer an unimaginable punishment for such treachery.
Will Celaena ever be truly free? Explore the dark underworld of this
kick-ass heroine to find out.

A whole book for part of Celaena's back-story, what's better than that? At first when I started reading Throne of Glass I had no intention of reading the prequels but it seems I was wrong.
Like Throne of Glass and all the books of the series, Sarah's writing is flawless, the descriptions, everything! Celaena is witty as always, but without all the suffering she endured in Endovier.
Of all the five novellas there are some better than others (in my opinion The Assassin and The Healer doesn't add anything to the plot, you could skip it and it wouldn't make much difference).
But the biggest difference between the stories is that some of them leave a mark on Celaena, for example if Celaena hadn't met the healers nothing would have happened. However The Assassin and The Empire is what shapes Celaena as the person she is, the dead of Sam leads her to her imprisonment in Endovier and later to Dorian and Chaol.
I have to confess that I was pretty excited when Dorian and Chaol appeared masked at the party where Celaena was.
One of the cons of the book is that you already know the end! There aren't many spoilers. You know that no matter how much you think Sam and Celaena hate each other they'll end up falling in love and together. And later you know that Sam will die and Celaena will be sent to Endovier, if it weren't that way there wouldn't be Throne of Glass.
I thought that the novellas would be mainly about Sam and Celaena, but Sam is there only half of the book.
